experiencing as self → commitments

The Q, U, and Z-nodes represent modes of experiencing in the I-phase, modes of attending in the O-phase, and modes of valuing/evaluating in the A-phase.

Q of W (in I) = experiencing as self; Q of P (in O) = focused attending; while Q-proper (in A) = willing/committing to valuing.

The spheres represent the ultimate cyclic/recursive character of any activity (experiencing, attending, or valuing).

letter Q

The letter Q is used to represent this node primarily given the relation of its traditional numerical value (100) to the other A-phase nodes as arranged in a magic square. See letter A for an explanation.

What the original letter qoph depicted isn't unambiguous. Some say it shows a needle with its eye. Some say it shows a monkey with its tail. Yet others say it shows the nape of a neck with the back of a human head. In any case, rather than our Q's shape involving a circle with a diagonal mark in the corner, the Phoenician qoph, archaic Greek koppa, and archaic Latin ku all involved a vertical segment with a small loop at the top. Will is typically thought of in terms of verticality. Things take a stand by force of will, and a commitment is an ongoing willing—an ongoing choice to take a stand—the ancient Q-signs work nicely to represent this node addressing what will be done, and especially what commitments are being made. Furthermore, if we interpret the ancient sign as depicting a nape and head, that once again works well as a sign for choice, will, and commitment, as choices are deliberate, and deliberation is associated with the head (perhaps as erect and looking straight away).
